This years events start as every year with the World Championships which are held on St Marys in the Isles of Scilly These are held over the May Bank Holiday weekend.The first races of the weekend are a fantastic sight with about 60 Gigs on the starting line just off St Agnes for the long haul back to St Marys.The positions in these races determine the heats that each crew is placed in for the following race and by winning their heat the crews can make their way up the rankings.This is always a very hard fought series of races and when it is all over the local hostelries are ready and willing to supply liquid refreshments in very large quantities to all who need it.

Some members of the club will be traveling to Brest in Brittany for the French International Maritime Festival which takes place from the 13th-17th of July 2000.

BREST 2000 is the latest in a series of very successful maritime festivals to be held at this historic port.It is expected to attract in excess of 2,500 ships and over 1,000,000 people. Cornwall has strong cultural links with Brittany, and we are planning to represent the club,the town of St Ives and the county of Cornwall at the event.
